Our Story and Commitment

Our Story: A Legacy of Compassionate Care

Texas Clinic was founded in 1984 in response to an urgent need for continued opioid treatment in the Houston area. When a government-funded program in the Heights suddenly closed, Dr. Manazir Shamsi—an experienced psychiatrist specializing in addiction medicine—acted quickly to ensure patients wouldn’t be left without care. By December of that year, he opened the first Texas Clinic location on Westview Drive in Spring Branch.

The demand for services was immediate. Texas Clinic Westview quickly reached capacity, revealing the widespread need for accessible, high-quality substance use treatment. In October 1985, just 10 months later, Dr. Shamsi expanded by opening Texas Clinic Fulton. What began as a small clinic within a shared building soon grew to occupy the entire space as the community’s needs increased.

Family-Led Growth and Expansion

In 1989, Dr. Shamsi’s eldest son, Farrukh, joined the clinic after earning his MBA from the University of Houston. He became Program Sponsor of Texas Clinic Fulton in 2000, leading it into a new era of growth and modernization.

That same year, Dr. Shamsi’s youngest son, Farhan Shamsi, became Program Sponsor of Texas Clinic Westview. He served in this role with deep dedication until his passing in 2018. Following his death, ownership and leadership remained within the family, and we proudly continue to honor Farhan’s legacy alongside the enduring mission of Texas Clinic.

Continued Growth to Serve More Communities

In 2008, Texas Clinic expanded into the Katy area. This location later relocated and became Texas Clinic Galleria, situated near San Felipe and Augusta.

Recognizing the growing impact of the opioid epidemic and increasing alcohol dependence in Fort Bend County, Texas Clinic opened its Grand Parkway location in Richmond in August 2019, near Peak Road and the Westpark Tollway.

Modern Facilities for a Modern Approach

In 2023, Texas Clinic Fulton moved into a brand-new, state-of-the-art two-story facility—directly across the street from its original site. This new center was designed to better serve the increasing number of individuals seeking treatment for opioid and alcohol use disorders.

A year later, in December 2024, Texas Clinic Westview celebrated its 40th anniversary by moving into a new modern facility near Westview and Campbell. Thoughtfully designed to support healing, this space reflects our commitment to providing a warm and welcoming environment for recovery.
